CRUISE LINE PRIVATE ISLANDS, PART 3
ROYAL CARIBBEAN HAS A VISION FOR A PRIVATE ISLAND COLLECTION
Get ready for "thrill and chill" as Royal Caribbean (RCCL) announced plans to develop a stable of deluxe private islands around the world, to be marketed as the Perfect Day island Collection.
It sounds impressive. After all - all cruise lines are upping the ante on private islands. So let's see the proof. The prototype will be RCCL's Bahamian private islands CocoCay, where the first phase of a $200 million upgrade will debut in September. Others are planned for the Caribbean, Asia and Australia.
RCCL is pledging that each private island may be different. For example, CocoCay will include a pair of towers with a combined 13 waterslides, including a 135-foot Daredevil's Peak, which supposedly will be the tallest waterslide in North america.
THE THRILL Waterpark will include:
The Caribbean's largest wave pool and a kid-friendly obstacle course pool.
Oasis Lagoon is billed as "the Caribbean's largest freshwater pool," with a swim-up bar and in-pool loungers, plus a 1,600-foot zipline at heights up to 450 feet that even feature a water landing.
UP, Up and Away, is a tethered helium balloon that will soar up to 450 feet to deliver a bird's-eye-view of the amazing Bahamian waters.
THE CHILL island will include:
A redone ultimate beach escape with cabanas, daybeds, and many activities like volleyball, glass-bottom kayaking and "zorbing" in an inflatable orb.
Coco Beach Club, an upscale venue will offer the first overwater cabanas in the Bahamas.
A new pier at CocoCay will not be ready when some of the features open in September, but when it is ready guests will no longer have to tender. The majority of of the new features will be in operation by spring 2019. The CocoCay Beach Club should open by November 2019.
