DAY 6 ON THE WIND SURF IN ST KITTS
St Kitts | Conch Fritters | Windstar Signature Deck BBQ - Wow!

While St. Kitts does not present a new stop for us, it is a return to one of our favorites. It is definitely an island to get out beyond the shops and explore the open spaces, great beaches and scenic vistas only St. Kitts can deliver.

After indoor breakfast (for once) in Veranda we packed a bag for the day and are off. After a quick exploration of the shops nearby we employ a cab driver and are off for a few hours. We love driving through beautiful St. Kitts. As you travel from one end to the other you have Atlantic Ocean view on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other.

We opted to drive to the far end to Cockleshell Beach, one of the better beaches on island. Our destination was the Reggae Bar & Grill for some Conch Fritters, cold brews and swim off the beach out back. We made several stops on the return drive for more glorious photos of the spectacular island.

Back in town we visited the shops once more. St Kitts is one of the larger shopping calls on this itinerary, and the last affordable one as St. Bart's is our next stop.

The main beaches in St. Kitts are South Friars Bay and Cockleshell Beach for white sand. Frigate Bay is another good choice but is black sand. There are thin strips of beaches along the highway bure rarely populated.

A popular St. Kitts attraction is Brimstone Hill, a 38-acre fortress that has been restored and has some impressive buildings with fantastic views. In its prime it featured 49 guns and was often fought over by the British and French.

Some excursions we can suggest in St. Kitts are the Caribbean Scenic Railway - which completely circles the island by road and rail in a matter of a few hours. The two level car offers air conditioned comfort on the lower level and open space on top for fantastic views. Zip Lining is another popular choice with runs as long as 1,400 feet in length and 25 stories above the ground. Expect to reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. You can also snorkel, dive, ride an ATV, take cooking lessons and SNUBA underwater.

The Wind Surf stays later in St. Kitts than in most ports with the last tender returning to the ship at 8:15pm. However we suggest to be back onboard by 7pm. You won't want to miss the Windstar Signature Deck BBQ. It is popular and guests line up early to get through the line first. But don't worry, the treats keep coming until you have no more room.

This is not your ordinary buffet. In this case we are docked off St. Kitts which is beautiful lit up at night. The white sails above us are illuminated by lights with the black sky as a powerful background and Windstar spares absolutely nothing in the superior cuisine department for this special occasion. Prepare to be spoiled by the generous soup and salad bar, suckling pig carved in front of you, fresh paella, steak and lobster. I will never forget when I returned to to lobster area for seconds the server inquired "how many?" So indulge and return for your favorites as often as you desire. But do save a bit of room. The dessert selection is massive!

During this festive on deck feast both music groups alternate with music and dancing available non stop. And of course during dinner the Sail Away ritual is performed one giant sail at a time. And then there is Line Dancing with the crew. if you have any energy left after dinner and dancing the two groups will play in their respective venues until ...
