St Lucia | Beach BBQ Party | Pigron Island | Fort Rodney

Day 6 of Windstar's Caribbean Legend itinerary brings us to Pigeon Island, St Lucia, what we refer to as the most Hawaii-like island in the Caribbean. From the famous twin Pitons to English forts, zip line fun, and fabulous beaches - St Lucia has everything you can desire in the Caribbean.

Pigeon Island is our landing spot in St Lucia, and home to our exclusive Beach BBQ Party. Beyond and before that there are still opportunities to get out and explore wonderful St Lucia. Here are some of the excursions offered by Windstar, one of which we participated in.

​

Aerial Tram Park: Sixteen open air gondolas ascend noiselessly through the rainforest, the only way to access these upper layers. Among giant ferns and playful hummingbirds you will enjoy incredible beauty  and panoramic views of the north part of the island on the descent. 3 1/2 hours

Cas en Bas Hiking Trail: A hike like few others starting at the beach, through cactus valley and up to the peninsula, along the coastline and above the Caribbean Sea. On a clear day you can view Martinique. A cool drink is your reward at Majorie's Bar back at Cas En Bas beach. 2 1/2 hours.

Discover Sailing: A professional crew welcomes you on to the 40-foot Papagayo, the island's only racing yacht. Learn how to hoist the sail, fly the jib, winch and trim the sails and take your turn at the helm as you glide across Rodney Bay. 2 1/2 hours

Off Road Segway Adventure: Hop on your Segway X2 and travel along the exclusive 1.5 mile well-groomed trail system. See the ruins of the old U.S. Naval Base, vistas of Pigeon Island, Reduit Beach, the Rodney Bay Marina, and the Caribbean Sea while gliding effortlessly.  2 1/2 hours.

Painting on the Bay: Become an artist on St Lucia. At Island Mix you will interact with local artists who guide you through all the steps to create your own masterpiece. In the end you have a painting of your own. 2 1/2 hours.

Rainforest Canopy Zip Line Adventure: In the heart of the rainforest you will zip along 4,000 feet of cables suspended between platforms. This will produce an amazing adrenaline rush.  5 hours.

Windstar Signature Beach BBQ: This included activity is a hit. This is Windstar's version of a private beach party. When you step on the beach all the lounge chairs are set up, the bar is open for drink purchases, and the band is playing Caribbean tunes.

The staff has brought plenty of water toys along for our enjoyment. So snorkel, kayak, stand-up paddle board to your heart's content. It's all here and all included. And when you are ready, a BBQ lunch is served buffet style with ribs, burgers, hot dogs, pastas, seafood, desserts and all the trimmings. Enjoy as much as you wish.

Before settling in I hiked to the top of nearby Fort Rodney for outstanding Caribbean Sea and St Lucia views from more than 200 feet in elevation. If you don't mind an uphill hike I recommend this for amazing views. Otherwise this is a glorious day at the beach to do as much or as little as you wish. 

​

No Sail Away celebration today, as we barely made it back on the ship before we experienced some Caribbean liquid sunshine. But we did indulge in some snacks at the Yacht Club. And of course enjoyed another fabulous dinner. 

​

A Look at Today's Events of Interest:

10:30 AM - Beach Massage: The spa team is ready to apply relaxing massages on the beach. There is a fee of course. 

​

12:30 PM - Beach BBQ. This was our main activity of the day, as described above.

​

6:15 - 7:15 PM - Signature Windstar Happy Hour: Join the bar team and musicians on deck for a Sail Away Happy Hour.

​

6:30 PM - Casino opens for slot play. Table games begin at 9 PM.

​

6:30 PM - Port Talk: Destination Manager Steve prepared us for St. George's Grenada, tomorrow's port of call. Yes, another fabulous Caribbean island is in store for us again tomorrow. 

​

7:00 - 9:00 PM - Dinner: Dinner is served in AmphorA and Candles (reservations required). 

​

9:30 PM  - Liars Club: The entertainment tonight is see if you can tell who is lying and who is telling the truth. 

9:30 PM - Live music in the Star Bar, until ...
