FEATURED RESORT: HOTEL XCARET MEXICO

Riviera Maya, Mexico continues to evolve as a destination, and the latest addition to a now stellar lineup of All-Inclusive Resorts is Hotel Xcaret Mexico. And boy, does this resort differentiate itself from a crowded field of high quality all-inclusive resorts. Perhaps the difference begins with the array of homemade popsicles you're offered at check-in - some infused with alcohol.

After a reported nine years of research and designing, guests reap the benefits immediately. A long road winds through not just any jungle but through one that is home to Xcaret Park. The lobby sits atop a small hill that greets guests with "Bienvenida a casa (welcome home)" and seemingly endless views of the long infinity pool leading to the Caribbean Sea.

The resort itself opened December 1 and offers 900 suites spread among five "casas" - each catering to a different clientele and each operates as a mini-hotel. Casa Viento is designed for families and adults; Casa Tierra focuses on families with a kiddie pool and kids and teen clubs; Casa Agua is an adult-only building and is home to the Muluk Spa and wellness center; Casa Fuego is a luxury adult-only section with its own private gym, restaurant and rooftop infinity pool with a bar and daily DJ entertainment; and Casa Espiral is recommended for groups and wedding groups as most events are hosted in this area. As you can see the resort is well designed.

Accommodations reflect the pride of Mexican culture. Experience bright Mexican hues and included locally made artifacts and artwork. Most of the ground floor rooms are swim-up suites and higher floor rooms feature traditional Mexican hammock on the balconies. Interiors feature rainfall showerheads, Jacuzzi tubs, flat-screen TV's, and stocked mini-bars.

The cultural footprint continues when you examine the details for the guest rooms: At turndown guests receive candy personally handcrafted by a Jalisco family; the bathroom tiles were hand-painted by a local community; and cushion covers are woven by women from the Chiapas area.

NATURE SHOWOFFS

Hotel Xcaret Mexico was carefully and respectfully constructed around nature. An extensive network of paths across the property lead to secret beaches, caves and coves that are fun to discover. Some rainforest trails lead to cenotes where guests can paddleboard or kayak, which are included activities.

DINING & DRINKING

But pampered guests cannot survive on luxury and nature alone. So it's a good thing gastronomy is an important pillar of the Hotel Xcaret concept. Ten restaurants and eight bars including food concepts for Steak, Asian, Italian, and a Mexican restaurant cut out of natural caves below the resort. Cool.

THE BIGGEST SELLING POINT: ADMISSION TO THEME PARKS

So who's behind this amazing divers resort? That would be the Experiencias Xcaret Group, the company behind eight eco-nature parks. Entry to all these parks and transportation is included with your rate. Yes, it's true. So stay at Hotel Xcaret Mexico and enjoy unlimited access to these parks:

  • XCARET PARK

  • XEL-HA PARK

  • XPLOR PARK

  • XPLOR FUEGO PARK for Night Adventures

  • XOXIMILCO CANCUN

  • XENSES PARK

  • & More

SPA

And if spa is your thing you will love Muluk Spa, built out of natural caves. Fifteen cabins are tucked inside individual caves. The hydrotherapy circuit includes a Jacuzzi, pool, sauna, steam room, plus cold and hot pools.

Not professing this resort to be better or worse than any other area resort, but Hotel Xcaret Mexico is unlike any other all-inclusive resort. And this is only the first of many resorts to come, in addition to a stadium, and more theme parks to be announced.
