30 DAYS LOCK DOWN VACATION BLOGS. DAY 8: WINDSTAR CARIBBEAN CRUISE

WINDSTAR CRUISES FOR A MORE EXCLUSIVE CRUISE EXPERIENCE

If you enjoy cruising with 4,000 - 5,000 passengers, need to zip line on a ship, climb a wall onboard, or don't like pulling into hidden coves and harbors - then Windstar Cruises are not for you.

However if you prefer a yacht experience with fewer than 310 total guests, enjoy pulling into exotic ports of call, and appreciate a personal level of service along with plenty of personal space - Windstar Cruises are for you.

Sails on Windstar Cruises Wind Surf

Experience real sails on the Wind Surf

I have sailed on Windstar Cruises multiple times, on both Wind ships (motor powered but also with full sails) and Star ships (fully powered with generous sized suites). Check out our Windstar Cruises overview to learn all about the Watersports Platform, life onboard and exceptional amenities. Check out our Itinerary Guide to see where the six ships sail throughout each season. And research the Weekly Windstar Deals on our website.

For this post I want to focus on a particular itinerary and share my experience on the flagship of the fleet, the 310 guest Wind Surf. The check-in and boarding process is quick and painless. The cabins are luxurious, efficiently designed and at least 188 square feet. Every Windstar Cruise has a Private onshore event, and this week's St. Lucia event was no exception. Every sailing features a BBQ dinner on deck including salads, pastas, appetizers, lobster (no limit), suckling pig, grilled ribs, paella, and deserts galore, followed by live music and line dancing lead by the fabulous crew.

There are plenty of social events onboard including a Port Talk each night to highlight the following days' port of call, always held in the main lounge an hour before dinner is first served. While there are no Broadway shows or the likes there are multiple live music events nightly in different locations throughout the evening. And the crew always puts on a talent show that guests absolutely love.

One of our favorite events is Sail Away, each day as we departed port music was played over the loudspeaker and drinks were hoisted as the sails were raised one-by-one in usually glorious blue skies

One of the best activities onboard which can not be duplicated by larger ships is the Watersports Platform which opens directly to the ocean. Located on the back of the ship you are encouraged to check out equipment for your water pleasure: snorkel gear, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, catamarans, trampoline, floating mat, and the speedboat will take you water skiing or tubing. It's all included, not a penny extra.

The Classic Caribbean itinerary is extremely popular, sailing roundtrip from lovely St. Maarten, which is a great destination to spend pre or post cruise nights as we did. Below is a glimpse of our day to day itinerary where each detailed page shows available activities and excursions along with onboard highlights and the Drink of the Day. Cheers

Day 2: BARBUDA - Beautiful nearly uninhabited sister island to Antigua. Long stretches of open pink sand beaches.

Day 3: DOMINICA - Lush green and mountainous. We went on a Whale & Dolphin expedition.

Day 4: ST. LUCIA - So many activities to enjoy. Plus the Private Event: Beach Day.

Day 5: GUADELOUPE - Dock in a beautiful quaint town with great Caribbean shops.

Day 6: St Kitts - So may options, such a beautiful island. We love to hire a driver and explore.

Day 7: St Bart's - Isle of the Rich & Famous. Rent a car and explore. Shell Beach is very unique.

In closing, we love Windstar Cruises, and the Classic Caribbean itinerary has so much to offer you could experience it again and again and explore new activities and attractions. Let us know when you are ready to investigate a Windstar Cruise so we can assist with our personal expertise.
